Frequently asked questions

What is Amplifi?
Amplifi is an AI-powered intelligibility platform built for regulated industries. It helps firms measure, improve, and evidence the clarity of their customer communications. Unlike standard readability tools, Amplifi's Cognitive Risk Engine assesses whether readers can genuinely understand content and act on it, not just whether it is easy to read. It works inside the tools teams already use, including Microsoft Word and Figma, and generates audit-ready compliance evidence at every stage of the content lifecycle. It was developed with FCA innovation support through the Regulatory Sandbox and is ISO 27001 certified.
Which sectors does Amplifi work in?
Amplifi is built for any sector where clear, compliant communication is a legal or regulatory requirement. Its primary sectors are financial services, legal, and gambling and gaming, but also relevant in property, healthcare, utilities and telecoms. In financial services, it supports compliance with FCA Consumer Duty, CONC, and COBS obligations. In legal, it helps firms meet the intelligibility standards set by the legal regulators, including the SRA Code of Conduct. It addresses the requirement of the Consumer Rights Act for Plain and Intelligible Language, and the updated CMA Guidance on Unfair Terms CMA37 and the DMCCA. In gambling, it supports Gambling Commission LCCP requirements around player-facing communications and transparency. Amplifi is also used by HR teams to improve the clarity of employee-facing documents, including contracts, policies, and handbooks.
What is the difference between readability and intelligibility?
Readability measures how easy text is to read based on sentence length and word length. Intelligibility goes further. It measures whether a reader can actually understand the content, apply it to their own situation, and make informed decisions based on it. Readability tools stop at surface-level metrics. Amplifi's Cognitive Risk Engine assesses conceptual complexity, ambiguity, and genuine comprehension risk. This is what regulators like the FCA now require firms to evidence.
What is FCA Consumer Duty and how does Amplifi support it?
FCA Consumer Duty requires firms to ensure their communications meet the information needs of retail customers and are likely to be understood. Firms must test communications and retain evidence of that testing. Amplifi scores every document against an intelligibility scale, identifies specific causes of complexity, and generates audit-ready reports that demonstrate how content has been tested and improved. This gives compliance teams the evidence trail Consumer Duty requires.
How does Amplifi's intelligibility scoring work?
Amplifi uses a proprietary Cognitive Risk Engine to score every document on a five-level intelligibility scale. It assesses conceptual complexity, ambiguity, passive voice, sentence structure, and the comprehension levels of different consumer groups, including vulnerable customers. The score tells you exactly where your intelligibility risk sits and what is causing it. It was developed with direct FCA support through the Regulatory Sandbox and validated in an SRA research trial.
Which tools does Amplifi integrate with?
Amplifi integrates directly with Microsoft Word, and with Figma. This means users can score, simplify, and govern content without leaving the tools they already use. Integrations with PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Google Drive, and Adobe are in development.
Can Amplifi handle AI-generated content?
Yes. AI-generated content carries the same intelligibility risk as human-written content, and often more. Amplifi scores and governs AI-generated text in the same way as any other document. Content governance rules, approved terminology, and intelligibility targets are applied regardless of how the content was created. This is increasingly important as firms use AI tools to scale content production without a corresponding increase in compliance oversight.
What is the Cognitive Risk Engine?
The Cognitive Risk Engine is Amplifi's proprietary scoring model. It goes beyond standard readability tools by assessing conceptual complexity, ambiguity, and genuine comprehension risk. It benchmarks every document against the comprehension levels of different consumer groups, including vulnerable customers. It was built on 50 years of cognitive and linguistic research and validated through the FCA Regulatory Sandbox and an SRA research trial.
Can Amplifi assess documents at scale?
Yes. Amplifi is built for organisations managing large volumes of regulated content. It scores every document in a portfolio instantly and ranks them by intelligibility risk, so teams can identify where to focus first. Progress is tracked over time by document, team, or business unit. This makes it possible to govern intelligibility at scale, not just document by document.
How does Amplifi use our data, is it used to train AI models?
Amplifi uses your data only to provide the services you choose to use within the platform, such as assessing, analysing, and improving the intelligibility of your communications. Amplifi uses enterprise level security and is ISO27001 accredited - so you can ensure your content is processed securely and solely for your organisation’s benefit.

We do not use customer data to train our own AI models, nor do we share your data with third parties for training or commercial purposes. All customer content remains confidential and under your control, in line with our data protection, security, and contractual commitments.
